Charity Auction Event @ Collaborate for a Cause

Collaborate for a Cause logoFriday 29th July 8pm EST to Sunday 31st July 8pm EST

The Collaborate for a Cause auction is getting under-way tomorrow!

Bringing together some of the most prominent, talented and high-profile Australian crafters, who have grouped together in 2’s, 3’s, 4’s and more to offer coordinated, one off and unique handmade packages, to be auctioned off for the charity their of choice.

Designed to promote friendship, understanding & fun through the Facebook handmade community whilst supporting many charities, this wonderful concept is certainly well on the way to meeting its’ aims. Fittingly, the auction occurs during the weekend of 30 July; the day nominated by the UN as International Friendship Day.

Some of the charities set to benefit from this auction include large charities like SIDS and Kids, The Leukaemia Foundation, Royal Flying Doctors Service, Starlight Children's Foundation and The McGrath Foundation; and smaller charities such as Mummy’s Wish, Victorian Rescue Dogs, Mums Like Me, and Backpacks for Aussie Kids; and many, many more.

The concept has been put together and run by Jen of Ainslee FOX Handmade. Jen has a high hopes for her project; tapping into the already well known general ‘niceness’ and compassion of the Aussie handmade community, for the benefit of deserving charities.

The auction is being hosted on Facebook, with payment arrangements to be made with the donating businesses who have "Authority to Fundraise" letters from their chosen charities.

Please visit and join the Collaborate for a Cause Facebook page now. Have a look through the Auction Album and get ready place your bids tomorrow.

Show your support for handmade and give to charity and gain yourself some quality and unique handmade items, the likes of which won’t be available again. A WIN/WIN for all.

Review @ 2PM at The Button Factory

2PM AT THE BUTTON FACTORY picSomething ever evolving for me, is my style in earrings. I love to change them daily and will change them from a simple diamond stud, to an eclectic mix of styles on the same day! This is sometimes dictated by my wardrobe; but more often than not, by my mood!

It is hard to find reasonably priced earrings made with quality materials (to protect my sensitive ears) that also have a unique style. I have looked high and low for a one-stop-shop, and I am extremely happy to say that I have found it. And even better it is local to Tasmania.

Now I knew this business was going to be impressive before I even laid eyes on it’s stock; with a name as out of the box as this, and an eye catching logo as it does… the designer had to have style all stitched up! I was right, she does!

If you are not already an admirer, then I take great pride in introducing you to 2pm at the Button Factory and its creator Amanda. Now if you, like me, have a passion for unique, handcrafted, beautiful goodness, then this is the business for you. Not only can you get lost in the catalogue of wonderful earring designs BUT you can also enjoy the hair accessories that are also made with a loving, talented hand.

Amanda was extremely accommodating with my order, allowing me to mix and match some of the earrings and producing them in a very short time. The only thing I’ve had issues with since purchasing my collection of 2pm earrings… sharing them with my daughter! To compromise I have promised that she can choose her own collection for Christmas!

With their current Sale Album all stocked up and selling beautiful earring designs at just $8 per pair, I think I will be stocking for Christmas NOW!

Review @ m2matiz

m2MatizIsn’t the name Mariana just beautiful. It rolls off the tongue and has me visualising European landscapes and theatrical people using their hands to punctuate their sentences.

Mariana is the woman behind a fantastic business called m2matiz. I don’t know her and nor can I claim her heritage to be European like my fantasy world above would dictate…. BUT I can tell you she has old fashioned manners stitched up as beautifully as she does the high standard of product that she creates. The way she welcomes every fan individually to her Facebook fan page is testament to such.

m2matiz is, by their own description, a graphic art and design studio. The beautiful imagery that is created by these artistic minds is then presented in stunning notebooks, cards, tags and a range of unique lighting products that have me finding myself lost in their beauty.

I was unbelievably honoured to be gifted a t.lighthaus© by the designer herself. This is a beautiful original product that takes ambience to the very next level. A beautiful image on a translucent textile, brought to life by the flicker of a tea light candle. The result is breathtaking.

Here is someone taking their art to the next level. Incorporating light to breathe brilliance into décor, design and service delivery. Taking imagery and making it tangible and accessible to everyone.

I love everything about m2matiz; the service… the product… the vision… the passion… the commitment to quality, as well as a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.

This is a truly beautiful business; one I am very happy to have discovered.

Review @ Little Miss Vintage

Little Miss VintageI love to see a designer breathe life into something that has been deemed redundant. To take a piece of fabric that is old and has seen a lifetime of use for one purpose, and reinvent it into another, is a real talent.

There are couple of designers that I love that do this extremely well but Little Miss Vintage really has a passion for her art. For me, she took a design she had originally created for a two year old and recreated it for my seven year old daughter. The vintage floral tiers on the dress are to die for! The versatility of this particular piece is genius! With the ability to layer through the colder seasons my little girl has a piece that will see her through both warm and cold days and it evolving into a shorter design as she grows. To have an item of clothing that will last for years is absolute brilliance when our children are growing faster than our wallets can keep up with.

To invest in a handmade piece that is made with love, created with a talented seamstress hand and in fabrics that have a history that can not be recreated with modern textiles... priceless! When buying from Little Miss Vintage it is an investment in all of the above. Sue is an absolute pleasure to deal with. Her friendly demeanour, engaging personality and a caring about her customer are all attributes that will be difficult for many to rival at the level that she takes them to.

If you are looking to invest in quality up-cycled fabrics in beautiful designs don’t look past this business. Sue is an untapped talent that is destined for very big things!

Review @ The Beanie Bunch

The Beanie BunchI have made plenty of noise about wanting to discover more designers from here in Tasmania and slowly I am beginning to discover more and more local talent. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to stumble across The Beanie Bunch. Two amazing Mums crocheting some very stylish beanies!

When making purchases for my children, style is always at the forefront of my mind, quality runs a very very close second and chasing up the rear is price. This business has all three of my major buying influences stitched up... literally.

My recent purchase was made up of a very cute owl beanie and a plain charcoal dimple look beanie for my two year old son. They are gorgeous, of beautiful quality and are now his favourite hats (of which he has a rather large personal collection). There is nothing wrong with wanting a wardrobe necessity to also be timeless in its style! In the case of The Beanie Bunch you can definitely have your cake and eat it too... and when it comes to handmade I am gluttonous!

Cat and Min (sisters) are relatively new to the handmade community and already have a strong allegiance of followers. I was most impressed with their turnaround time (all hats are made to order) and the ongoing updates that I received throughout the process.

As the winter months envelope us I can not think of a more appropriate business to review and celebrate. Two Mum's working together to create quality products that they love and delivering on a service that they should be extremely proud of... a dream combination I believe.
